How To Change Your Car Battery With Advance Auto Parts

How do you know when it’s time to replace your car battery? Well, if you’ve ever had a car battery die on you, you know the answer to that. Car batteries rarely die without warning, and usually when they do, it tends to be at the most inconvenient times. That could be in a parking lot late at night or even while you’re in the middle of driving.

If you have a bad battery, your engine won’t start and turn over. This is especially true if your car has been sitting for a while without being driven. You may notice slow engine crank and dim headlights as well. Your car might not start at all, or it could start and then stall immediately.

In order to avoid these problems, we recommend that you get into the habit of regularly checking your battery’s condition. It’s also important to check it before long trips, during colder weather and before storage in case your vehicle is going to be sitting for a long period of time.

If your battery isn’t working properly, Advance Auto Parts has the right battery for your vehicle and budget.

Let’s say the battery in your car is drained and you need to replace it. Well, Advance Auto Parts has everything you need for a quick repair. We’ll show you how to change your vehicle’s battery so you can get back on the road in no time.

  1. Open the hood of your vehicle and locate your car’s old battery
  2. Use a socket wrench to remove the negative (-) cable (this is typically connected to black or blue-colored terminal). Make sure you disconnect the negative terminal connection first
  3. Remove the positive (+) cable (typically red or yellow) from the battery
  4. Remove all other cables and connections that are attached to your old battery, then lift it out of your car
  5. Place the new battery in your vehicle, then attach all cables and connections that were removed from your old battery to the new one
  6. Tighten all terminals with a socket wrench, making sure they are secure
  7. Reconnect the positive cable (red or yellow) to the positive terminal on the new battery
  8. Reconnect the negative cable (black or blue) to the negative terminal on the new battery
  9. Close your vehicle’s hood and start it up!

Overall this, from Advance Auto Parts is decent. It definitely saves you a lot of time and hassle, however there are a couple of things that could be improved. The first thing that some people might not like is the price, it’s the most expensive route to go between the options. The second thing is the lack of a slow-moving, narrated instruction at certain parts — for example, how to remove your battery cage properly. It would also be very helpful if he showed you how to connect the red and black cables onto the correct posts on your battery. This is just me personally not understanding as I have never replaced a battery before and was confused what he was referring to. I would recommend if you do purchase your car battery from Advance Auto Parts that they use digital TVs to demo (this will save them time and money).
